It
was the end of summer 1983. I was going into my senior year of High School. I had been a
Leppard fan since MTV started playing their video's from High N'Dry. Steve had always been
my favorite. He really started to look GOOD during the Pyromania days! Anyways, my
best friend and 2 other close friends had heard that they were coming to town! He had to
get tickets! And we did, the concert was for Aug 19, 1983, which was also the first day of
school. We four wore our Leppard home made T-shirts to school and counted down the
minutes.
Finally,
school was out and we all went home to "prepare" for the best night of our
lives, up until then! I'm not sure which one of us heard it, but thelocal radio station
said that they were going to interview two members of Def Leppard. We all called each
other and before we knew we were on our way down there! Each of us was hoping it
would be their favorite member, since we all liked someone different. We arrived and
there was hardly anyone there, maybe 15 other people. We all waited and waited! Two cars
pulled up and Phil and Steve jump out and run towards the building. We all froze for what
seemed like forever.
When Steve
ran by me, I asked for his autograph, and he said, "If you'd care to wait, I will do
it when we are done" I just shook my head and just stood there after he went inside!
My friends had to "bring me back" to earth. I don't remember how long they were
in there, but when they came out, they went up to the people who were waiting right away
and signed autographs and chatted. I kinda stood back waiting, till I finally got up
the nerve to go up to Steve. He signed my paper .(which I lost in a house fire 2 years
ago) I just came out and asked for a kiss! He smiled at me and kissed me! (that's where
the pic was taken above) I thanked him and went to sit on the steps of the building. My
best friend was in the car with Phil, he was really nice too! Finally, it was time for
them to go. We all just stood there in a daze for I don't know how long.
That night we
went to the concert and had the best time!!! Truly a night to never forget and to this day
Aug 19, 1983 is a special day for us four!
